BBC News: Tech Tent: Can facial recognition fit with a fair society?
Tech Tent: Can facial recognition fit with a fair society? – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44250952
I hear a lot of people complaining about facial recognition software.. it’s been in use here for many years now but only just starting to hit the media.
The ability for software to recognize has been around for a very long time.. remember back in the day when we used OCR .. yea .. well this is much the same thing really but more advanced.
Businesses have been using number plate recognition for a long time.. the reality is that it was never that big a jump to people. In advancing countries like China, cardless ATMs are trailed and popular .. using just your face and a mobile number.
Bio readers like finger print scanners have been around for decades, now commonplace on most recent mobile phones and other devices.
“Don’t worry, your personal data is secure” … Lol .. try googling your own name .. or even a picture of yourself and see what comes up.
We gave up out rights to privacy when we decided we wanted social media and instant communication, and we wanted it for free… honestly companies don’t give anything for free.. there’s always a catch.. like targeted marketing … think Facebook is free lol no no it’s not. It’s a giant data mining company making an income from advertising and using their mined data to do so.
So why are you so worried about facial recognition again ?
Forward marches the future. One we can not control.
So relax.. enjoy the ride… it’s free .. and don’t forget to smile.

NSA hiding Equation spy program on hard drives
Not to be bios or anything ( cute pun ) but I do wonder just how far organizations like the NSA etc are willing to go to get their dirty little hands on our lives.
Considering that we adopt new technology at an ever increasing rate hoping it brings us some peace of mind in a busy world… that we give up more and more of our privacy to do so.
Facebook–we own your privacy
Best thing i ever did.. removing the new updated Facebook app from my phone. As much as I donāt mind SOME information being shared/collected by the likes of FB or Google, face books new permissions requirements for the app are totally unacceptable for me.
They now want to be able to control āwithout host permissionā that means the FB app does stuff without asking you.. like reading/creating/sharing your personal calendar, Wi-Fi snooping, reading your text messages, sms, mms, etc., your location without permission, info about other apps you have installed and use, a wealth of personal information, phone calls, modifying accounts, and a whole stack of other stuff..
I wonder how many people actually stop to read the ānew updates/permissionsā blurb, instead of just automatically hitting the āacceptā and letting it update, or even have it automatically update.
Companies like Facebook, Google, etc. are out there to data mine anything and everything they can about you.
Take responsibility for the privacy of you and your family.
Facebook’s attempt and ALMOST trying to justify why they want more from you..
